    Catherine and Loyse uncle, who lives in Burgundy. He befriended also Abou-al_Khayr, Catherine's great doctor friend from Granada. Uncle Mathieu was also once at Montsalvy, when Catherine and Arnaud returned from Granada.

    a Norman woodcutter, whose life Catherine had saved - when La Hire wanted him hanged. He asked to become her servant - he loved Catherine until his dying day - Catherine herself gave a part of her heart to this faithful and honest man.

He tried to protect his Dame Catherine, when she arrived at the village - where Arnaud had gone to challenge the brigand Valettte, one of Count Rodrigo Villa-Andrade's lieutenant's.

    Catherine met Raoul de Gaucourt at Orléans in the days of Jeanne d'Arc. His kind words to her when they met years later at Chinon:

    "it gives me much more pleasure to welcome Madame de Montsalvy to Chinon than it gave me to receive Madame de Brazey at Orléans once upon a time! The devil take it if I'd have guessed that it was love of Montsalvy which brought you into that wasp nest! Especially since that noble lord of yours did his uttermost to get you hanged!"

    ...and it was Lord de Gaucourt, who prevented Catherine from killing Comtetsse Catherine de Trémoille with the Montsavly dagger! The woman responsible for all the agony and dreadful road Arnaud and Catherine had to go through at that time!
